"If you are so smart, why are you not rich"
If you are so smart, why do you live a shit life? Why are you depressed, why are you struggling, why is it empty?
Respect comes from results, from competence. And no one, absolutely no one cares about how hard you work to get the results, only what they are
You could spend all your life helping someone, but if your effort didn't amount to any significant changes, no one cares that you were working hard, how much you've given of yourself
Only the end result - did their situation actually improve
"Not caring" is a harsh word, because obviously if someone is trying to help you, but its missing all the time, you might still appreciate the effort. Thank you, really, but its just not doing it for me, I am sorry.
Thats what I mean by "not caring". It simply misses to have impact
Same with relationships, same with work, same with life.
Succeed, or die in a fire
Take the emotions out of it, just think logically, this is what ultimate fairness truly is. And it can be beautiful.
Angels, God. All those things are talked about to be the ultimate judges, harsh, but fair. This is it.
Open your eyes, see the truth, act on it. You know deep down, exactly what you need to do, the way to get there. You know what is needed next. Now step forth with confidence

Maybe life is simple, you are just an animal who seeks animal needs and pleasures. If they are missing, you feel bad, and there is no need to go deeper
Pleasure has a bad connotation, it is perceived as drugs, cheap sex - vices of all sorts. Essentially non lasting things. You could perceive drifting as a bad vice for example or traveling. As you go out and do it, blow through your resources and then back to being a nobody. The contrast is crushing and might lead to suicide
But what other pleasures are out there?
Pleasure of being loved and understood, pleasure of fathering children and raising them, pleasure of freedom from work, pleasure of freedom of being able to afford to engage in vices and still having something to come back to, of good food, of security. Pleasure of being respected, pleasure of being competent, looked up to
You basically need a combination of multiple things. Only having one, makes you not much different from a drug addict. So the lows are very low, and the highs get only shorter, as you know what is coming afterwards.
How can you enjoy a thing X, if you know it will end in a week and you ll be left with absolutely nothing, but grueling existence?
The foreshadowing creates so much stress that is hard to escape from

Anyway, so what?
You need to know what causes you pleasure, how to get it. Working towards them, grabbing whatever you can now, and weighing the pros/cons of short term vs long term pleasure. Not let one affect the other too much. Or at least always be moving towards long term ones, while enjoying the short ones
I don't know.
